Google Search Appliance to run on Dell PowerEdge Servers

GSA DellGoogle and Dell have devised an intelligent formula to sell their products - Dell will factory-install Google software on millions of new Dell computers and in return, Dell gets around $1 billion from Google and something more.

Dell today disclosed that Google will buy Dell PowerEdge servers for the Google Search Appliance which is popular intranet search product among Enterprise users. Dell PowerEdge server use Intel Woodcrest dual-core processors.

This is a win-win situation for both players. Google gets a permanent place on the consumer desktop which has been dominated by Microsoft while Dell gets huge cash from Google and will also win new corporate customers who use Google Web Search in their organizations.

Dell-Google relationship has always been strong. Dell already supplies Google with computers for data centers used to run Google's massive Web operations. The bond just got stronger.
